When Jodi and I started planning the family photo-shoot she wanted two things out of it: First, he was not interested in posed photos, Instead, she wanted photojournalistic shots that she could look back on and remember her 4 year old, Jace, and 2 year old, Jordan. I told her she’d come to the perfect person. I love letting kids be kids and finding fun things for them to do that bring out their smiles and expressions for me to photograph.
Second, she wanted a location that had lots of wild life and plants around. It should be a place close to their home that didn't look super groomed and city-like. We picked the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert and it was on spot.
We enjoyed a bright sunny day with spots of shade here and there from the trees. The temperature was very comfortable and the water was incredibly blue! We had so much fun chasing ducks, searching for rabbits, teaching the kids about poky things like cactus, running away from Mom and Dad, and then running and jumping into their arms again. (Not me, just the kids. LOL)
We had a couple snack and water breaks to refuel but otherwise we kept moving which kept the kiddos entertained and happy. Jodi and her husband, Curtis, got really, REALLY BIG smiles from both kids by doing that thing that every kid loves. You know, 1... 2...3... lift and swing!
Our last few photos had gorgeous sunset backlighting and the parents gave them each one last big tickle and laugh before calling the shoot good and rewarding the kids with blue and pink lollipops. Of course, I had to get one last shot! I know I’ve had a successful family shoot when it the beginning both kids are a little timid and shy towards me and by the end they both want to hold my hand and show me which way the rabbits went…and they didn't even want to say good bye =)
Jodi and Cutis,
Thank you for making our photoshoot so fun and natural. You made Kaleo and I feel so welcome. It was easy to capture you and your beautiful kiddos. I loved getting to know all of you so much and I hope to see you all again soon =)
